Review of Gippert & Dum-Tragut "Caucasian Albania - an International Handbook"
Thomas Wier
May 2024

The review examines the contributions of the first comprehensive handbook on the Caucasian Albanian people, who until the 8th century CE ruled the lower Kura river basin in what is today Azerbaijan. The review discusses the Handbook's contributions to Caucasian Albanian paleography, language, and the origin of its writing system. It also discusses factors that lead to the slow decline of the language, still spoken by today's Udi community.
