Discourse Time is Real

What is discourse/utterance time? And what characteristics of utterance time are relevant for the interpretation of utterances? In this talk, I use temporal iconicity in live report and narrative, and the resulting similarity between the domain of event times and the domain of utterance times as a way to investigate the notion of utterance time more closely. I present experimental evidence that not only temporal order, but also the duration of events can be reflected iconically by utterance times.
