This paper explores universal Free Choice Items (FCIs) in Khalkha Mongolian using wh-words with the particles l and bol. The analysis suggests l acts as an exclusive focus marker and bol introduces conditional meaning, leading to a universal free choice interpretation under imperfective aspect. Comparisons with similar structures in other languages, like Tibetan (Erlewine 2020), provide a broader perspective on FCI encoding in Khalkha Mongolian.
