German ‘noch genau wissen’: Uniform Semantics, Distinct Effects
Emil Rosina, Kristina Liefke
February 2025

We give a uniform compositional semantics for the German memory predicate noch wissen [‘still know’] that licenses both declarative dass- [‘that’-] & free relative wie- [‘how’-]complements, viz. by representing events as propositions. We show that this semantics yields the intuitive different interpretations of genau [roughly: ‘exactly’] in 'genau wissen, dass' (reliability) and 'genau wissen, wie' (vividness) under a single lexical entry for 'genau' (due to Wurm, 2020).
